ABOUT The designer
Michelle is the Founder and a Creative Director of Mizel Jewelry. Her designs have been sold and exhibited in Leeum (Samsung Museum of Art), Evanston Art Center, Palos Verdes Art Center, Facility, and School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After completing her BFA in Visual Communications at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she returned to school to pursue her graduate degree in Fashion Design and teaches there as a Lecturer now.
She believes in the power of expression with visual arts whether it is in fashion, graphic design, film, and installation. Based in Chicago, she experiments with new materials and reinvents original techniques of jewelry making in sewing, knitting, beading, and embroidery. Her design inspiration comes from her Grandfather, Dong-Hwa Huh, who was the Founder and a Director of the Museum of Korean Embroidery and an Artist himself. She is inspired by the 19th century Korean embroidery, which is meticulously handcrafted by unknown artists, who used embroidery as a way of visual expression.
